This subject has been bothering me for a while, actually ever since I heard about it on the news. I am someone who believes in all faiths and I respect the beliefs of others. But this topic went a bit far for me. The fact that we have Islamic prayers at TDSB schools does not seem right. We are here in Canada why adjust ourselves to their faith. It feels like they’re assimilating us into their culture. If they decide to have a “special menu” on fridays other faiths should be accommodated as well. We all have equal rights to do whatever we want, but to a point where one religion is looked at more so than others just seems wrong. Hindus can’t eat beef nor eat meat on fridays, how come schools do not accommodate their needs? Jewish people eat kosher, do we accommodate their needs and etc. Overall I have no problem with prayers at school, but if they emphasize on a specific god, then there’s a problem. Advice to TDSB, accommodate the needs for all or none. I know for a fact that other religions keep their mouth shut and you cannot just please one religion. What do you guys think?
